Exact Words: Review

Review Words & Letters

• Let's use the criteria to score student samples for both exact words and letters.
• Remember exact words must meet all 5 criteria in order to be counted.
• Recognizable letters must be part of a discernable word and meet two criteria.
• Let's review the criteria for each.

Each word that meets all 5 criteria below will be counted as an exact word. 

1. An exact copy of the text.
2. Spelled correctly.
3. Letters appropriately formed according to district's curriculum.
4. Appropriate spacing.
5. Proportionately sized letters.

Recognizable Letters

Each letter that meets both criteria below will be counted as a recognizable letter.

1. Letter must be part of a discernable word.
2. Letters must be recognizable within the word.

2. How many recognizable letters are in the student model?
